Strange Dreams

Strange Dreams is an exhibition of paintings, drawings, sculptural pieces and a sound work by Chloe Bonfield, responding to the south west landscape.

Chloe will create a call out for fragments of text from anyone who wants to share their dreams about their connection to the Cornish landscape. There will be a workshop in the space that will explore connections between drawing and dreams. Together thinking about how collective dreaming can bring into being shared physical experiences.

With a focus on the role of art in the community, and how it is unique in helping to achieve this.

The work from this exhibition will be developed and shared at other locations throughout the UK during 2026.

Chloe Bonfield paints with swift, liquid brushstrokes on layers of butter muslin, bed sheets or panels, either stretched or softly pinned to the wall. Her marks emerge from a place of flow or from a sudden, urgent need; gestures made quickly, instinctively, in response to the moment. As a parent working mostly alone, Bonfield shifted from a search for communal, premeditated art-making to a more immediate and intuitive practice, created in stolen fragments of time, between school drop-offs and the quiet rituals of home life. These works are made to be shared after the moment has passed. Exploring the gaze of the figure as a dissociated or day dreaming symbol, that comes to a humanised connection through painting.

In 2026 Chloe is starting to work on projects specific to location, exploring material enquiries and site specific responses that are gently subversive, through painting, sculpture and sound.
