ALMA Presents : ELEPIDOTE

For the next in our series of artist-residencies at Newquay Orchard, ALMA is delighted to present a group exhibition and collaborative project with Falmouth-based artist and curator Chloe Bonfield.

ELEPIDOTE features the work of eight contemporary artists, working across a range of themes and styles. The collection on display at the Orchard hints at imagined landscapes, strange textures and shifting seasons - all connected by their luminous painterly qualities.

Cross contaminated painting ruminations on plants, hands, faces and heads. Lights or whizzing viaducts, close up leaf textures and walking humans with hats. Elepidotes are Azaleas or Rhododendrons with scale-less leaves. The lepidote texture might be more like a thick painting, elepidote like the thin. Invasive plants like little curious thoughts spreading eagle in our brains.

The first iteration of ELEPIDOTE was shown in the greenhouse at Potager Gardens in Constantine. For this version at the Orchard, Chloe has invited the same group of artists to contribute new works and we are very excited to show them together in Newquay.

Featured artists : Anna Isley, Amy Lawrence, Charlie Duck, Chloe Bonfield, Daniel MacCarthy, Hugh Frost, Jamie Stenhouse and Jennifer Pitchers.
